Wests Roosters Mission Statement
The Western Suburbs Rugby Football Club, affectionately named the Wests Roosters aim to provide a rugby environment where individuals are encouraged to achieve their full potential. We strive for excellence, success and fair play both on and off the field.
The Wests Roosters debuted on the Wellington Club Scene in 1983, being an amalgamation of some of Wellington's most successful and traditional clubs: Onslow, Athletic and Karori clubs were merged to form the Mighty Roosters.
Wests won their first Jubilee Cup in 1998 and have forged a family club based on the true traditions of loyalty, hardwork and mateship. We field teams in almost all grades including Senior 2s, Reserve grades, U21s, U85kg restricted and Presidents grades.
Our junior membership is made up of families from the Western suburbs in Wellington from Brooklyn, the city and Karori through to Khandallah, Onslow and Broadmeadows in the north.
The senior membership includes players from the Wellington region and we welcome players from out of town and overseas.
The clubrooms and astroturf training gym are situated at Ian Galloway Park on Curtis Street in Wilton/Northland. We are just five minutes by car from Victoria University. This is also the site of our home ground, which is affectionately known as The Cage.
Wests provide a fully equipped training facility, which includes flood lit grounds, astroturf gym and all the necessary rugby and specialist training equipment. We also have a Rugby Coaching Co-ordinator, John Furlong, to provide expert assistance to our players, coaches, local schools and club management.
The Wests Roosters have produced players that have represented the club at the highest level. All Blacks Rodney Sooialo, Alama Ieremia, Filo Tiatia and Scott Crichton, who all have provide wonderful assistance to our young players. Rooster Hurricanes include Luke Mahoney and Joe McDonnell with Kane Thompson at the Chiefs. Scott Fugistaller was a Wellington Lion and Highlander before heading to Melbourne to play for the Rebels. Many other Premier or Age-grade Wests players have represented their province in recent years.
