OBU 10 WESTS 6
Old Boys University 10 (James Shaw try, Nick Cudby 1 con, 1 pen) Wests Roosters 6 (Andrew Newson 2 pen). HT: 10-0. (Care of Dominion Post).
Best and fairest: 3 points: Johnathon Fuimaono, OBU prop. 2 points: Nalu Tuigamala, Wests halfback. 1 point: Sam Blair, Wests flanker.
What happened: Two evenly matched teams produced a lacklustre game that only livened up in the last 10 minutes. Wests employed an expansive game plan that at times lacked accuracy and execution in the first half. It was from one of their many missed kicks that allowed OBU to score a well-taken team try to wing James Shaw. Although both backlines attempted to play with creativity, poor handling marred their endeavours. It was left to a set of hard working forward packs led by Sam Blair for Wests and Johnathon Fuimaono of OBU to decide the match.
The big play: Five minutes from halftime a missed touchfinder allowed OBU to counter from inside their own half. A rampaging run from Fuimaono eventually led to Shaw scoring under the posts.
